0Georgia Tech Develops App for Atlanta Bike Routes
Dr. Kari Edison Watkins and a team of researchers at Georgia Tech are developing a smartphone app to improve the cycling experience for Atlantans. The app uses cyclists’ phone GPS to record routes in real time, allowing the city of Atlanta to determine which routes cyclists prefer. The app will also allow users to report problems along their route such as potholes, obstructed bike lanes and other issues.
The information collected by the app will be used to make strategic improvements in bicycle infrastructure, which will make cycling in Atlanta more pleasant and encourage those who currently don’t bike to give it a go. The CycleAtlanta site has an interactive map with rider demographics and other information about riders that are taking to the streets.
