0Extreme Weather Events Affect Mental Well-Being
People that experience storm and flood damage to their homes are about 50 percent more likely to experience depression and anxiety, British researchers report. Survey- ing more than 7,500 people after the 2013-2014 season of severe weather, they found that those with homes damaged by wind, rain, snow or floods had mental health risks similar to living in a disadvantaged area. This occurred even when the effects of the extreme weather were relatively minor and did not force people to leave their homes.
